Is starvation mode real?

I've lost weight from cutting down my food intake, skipping meals, and doing little exercise. I know people say that if you don't eat enough your body will store what ever you eat as fat but is this really true? In my case I just keep dropping pounds and looking thinner and happier when I eat less than I should. It makes me feel in control...and starvation mode does not happen to me. I lost so much weight, people were shocked. I only gained it back on purpose by increasing my food intake because I kind of got tired of being told that I'm becoming too thin. If I had continued to eat like a 4 year old, I would have stayed thin, (not that I'm fat now..I'm not, but I'm just not that thin anymore..and I gained the weight consciously, on purpose).
